To Whom it may concern:
I was linked by a friend to a seven-minute clip of the Alan Titchmarsh show where there was a debate about the Video Games Industry. Even though I do not watch this kind of show, I find it appalling and disgusting how you handled this topic. For one, the entire debate was incredibly biased, and the only person who wanted to defend the Industry, Tim Ingham, was put in the spot light with most of his answers swatted away like flies by Julie Peasgood. You may have been trying to give the Video Games Industry a bad name, but if you want to tackle this problem of ‘violent behaviour in gamers’ then perhaps you should contact the makers of the games you mentioned at the beginning of the debate.

Open Letter To ITV: About the Alan Titchmarsh Show’s Video Games Disscussion
To Whom It May Concern:
I would like to complain about the way your team handled the discussion of the issue of violence in videogames. Quite frankly, it was appalling. If you want to make a good program based on truth, you need to look at both sides of the argument equally, rather than just ignoring the “baddies” point of view and spreading falsifications. Throughout the segment, Tim Ingham was constantly interrupted and not allowed to have his opinion heard. I was outraged when the other hosts, including Alan Titchmarsh himself, completely ignored his point of view, and the other hosts, again including Alan, lied about facts such as “You can’t stop children going into a house and putting on a video” And when Tim tried to explain about how Parental Controls can do just that, by blocking the child to play video games over a set age. I’m getting tired of ranting, so I’ll finish this quickly. There is no conclusive proof that video games have a direct link to violence, and the problem is not the games, and is not with the Games Industry itself, but with the parents or people buying underage children these violent video games, and not setting up the proper protections to stop their kids from playing these violent video games.
There are exactly the same protection for stopping kids watching violent or other wise overage video games, as there is for stopping kids watching violent or otherwise overage movies. In fact, there is more protection for stopping violent video games falling into the wrong hands than movies, due to the fact of the relative ease of activating the parental control that is included with EVERY system of the 3 biggest and only current generation video game consoles.
Maybe you should apologize to Tim Ingham, and the gaming industry in general for any illusions you may of cast, and do something helpful to help those who don’t know about Parental Control learn how to set it up, because it seems even though the information is easily accessed, it is not used in all cases, which leads to underage kids being able to play overage video games. The stereotype is now completely wrong that all video games are violent and rotting kids souls, they are a lot more of a family experience.

(P.P.S. Another of my views is that it depends on what the parents think their children are ok playing. My parents are OK with me playing 15 rated games, because I’m not psychotic, nor immature and stupid enough to think the things that happen in video games would be a real cool thing to do in real life. However, I fully support Parental Controls.)
